Takayama Ukon led a fascinating life, becoming an inspiration to Catholics worldwide.

Some years ago I was surprised to see his figure illustrated in a fresco on the wall of a magnificent church in Oporto (?) in Portugal.

Perfect. Thank you kindly.

Sadly, there is nothing in this general explanation of teppo which could connect these to Takayama Ukon especially. They are simply two smallbore long teppo from Kunitomo and Sakai that Takatsuki City's Shiroato Rekishikan museum possesses.

Is it common that the lock plate and serpentine are decorated that way?

Not common, but there was a style of Kunitomo long gun that followed this format.
