Stage 1
Yesterday we had a very interesting lecture about the Joshu kabuto. President Nagata san had the full attention of the 65 attendees.

Hello all,

Please forgive the brevity of this post, but it's 2AM and I need to catch some zzzz's - this is what happens when it's all katchu, all the time!

Here's the first stop on the Japanese Legacy III Grand Tour: Berlin and the amazing Samurai Art Museum, where we were hosted by the incredibly generous and gracious, Peter Janssen.

I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all those involved in arranging the latest symposium, especially (in no particular order) John, Jo and Luc. Through your hard work you have again created a really special occasion that has brought together many old friends and introduced new friends. All shared a passion for not only Japanese armour but also Japanese art, history and culture. This passion was evident in the many lectures and (late night!) discussions throughout the weekend, my only regret being that I could not participate in the whole “Grand tour”. This years lectures were spectacular as was the visit to the exhibition and performance at the SieboldHuis, a truly memorable day. Also to enjoy the company of the Japanese delegates from the NKBKHK was not only a pleasure but an education. I hope you all enjoy the remaining days of what can only be described as a momentous occasion.
I look forward to a full report on the visits to Berlin, Belgium and Paris.

The Museum of Peter is just an amazing place, and he is also the perfect host.

It was very nice to see the interaction going on between the NKBKHK delegation from Japan and the JAS members. A real, and unique exchange of information.

Mr. Nagata, President of the NKBKHK, Peter Janssen JAS member and owner of the Samurai Art Museum in Berlin, Luc Taelman, JAS president.

I am on my way back home now. This week was a true fusion of cultures, knowledge and friendship. Thanks to everyone who helped us to make it possible.

The last five days were absolutely outstanding. The quality of the displayed pieces and of the shared information was at the highest level. The opportunity offered to exchange so freely with our Japanese friends was a unique moment. A thousand thanks to Jo, John, Bas, Luc and Peter for the perfect organisation of this unforgettable event (I hope I forgot none of my friends in the list, but if it is the case, I am truly sorry).

All the best to all of you

Frederic

Due to the Air France strike, my plane was cancelled so I had the time to visit for a second time the amazing exhibition in Paris, and to have a great lunch with the last remaining participants. So thank you Air France!

Thank you all for the great talks, the inspiring and educational moments, the amazing friendships, and the help of all of you in building a bridge between East and West. The Japanese delegation was impressed with the quality of pieces in the West, the passion and level of research of all of you, and the results that JAS has accomplished in such a short amount of time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And thank you to the great team who made this possible. The doors in Japan will be open for you.

Jo, on his way back to Japan, with a detour

What an absolutely mind-blowing, awe-inspiring, unforgettable experience!

I've just arrived home and will be posting more in the days to come, but first have to catch up on sleep and what's happening in the real world after living a fantasy the last week...
